The true impact of a sports-for-development program often unfolds quietly, beyond the boundaries of the field. On most days, we aren’t there to witness how lessons learned during practice translate into actions in the children’s personal lives. But every now and then, we get lucky enough to see it firsthand.

Ragini and Shobhit, two of our participants, are naturally kind-hearted individuals. However, like many children their age, they are often so engrossed in their own world that they don’t always notice what’s happening around them. That’s why this moment, captured in a video from a few months ago, stands out so vividly.

Right outside our practice ground, a middle-aged man was struggling to push his cart up a slanting road. Without being asked, Ragini and Shobhit noticed his predicament, parked their cycles, and ran to help him. Together, they pushed the heavy cart up the incline, ensuring it was steady and safe before continuing on their way.

What makes this moment truly impactful is not just their act of kindness but the fact that they noticed someone in need and chose to act. It’s a powerful reminder that even the simple act of awareness — of recognizing when someone needs help — can be a marker of personal growth and the positive ripple effects of a sports program.

For us, this small yet significant gesture reaffirms why we do what we do. It’s a testament to the values of empathy, teamwork, and initiative that sports can instill, and how those values can shape young individuals into compassionate, responsible members of society.
